You cut your luciously long locks and started colour co-ordinating your outfits, then as if that wasn't enough, you created a song called 'Sex on Fire' that made Chavs do grinding actions to it whenever it was played in clubs, which was like, every five minutes.
So, really, I would say pigeon's showering you in their faeces at one of your recent gigs is an acceptable amount of repayment Karma, so DEAL WITH IT.
So it's Friday evening and I should be feeling fine, but instead I find myself immersed in a semi-misery style disatisfaction with life. So I'm listening to some dark, atmospheric rock and putting on my best broody look. If you're feeling similar then give these a listen.....
Chelsea Wolfe
Moses
Sounds like it's the theme tune for a monster lurking at the bottom of the sea, perfect.
Cults
Most Wanted
Don't be fooled by the relatively upbeat piano & bass, give the lyrics a listen.
Solander
Looking for Gold
Acoustic Guitars, whimsical vocals, invariably tinged with sadness.
Led Zeppelin
How Many More Times
The Zep always have that moody tension, a brilliant bad mood accompaniment.
Remember the two kids from Jurrassic Park and how cute they were? Well after googling what the actor who played Michael from The Lost Boys looks like now and being pretty unimpressed with the results, we checked them out, and were rather unimpressed. It's like the Ugly Duckling in reverse down here.
PS. We are being pretty immature & harsh, but it's funny. Who else can you think of that showed early promise in the awesomely hot stakes but didn't quite follow through? (do not say me)
If you are my age, or round about that, I bet you can remember buying IS THIS IT by The Strokes, even marvelling at the genius choice of band name. They were oh so cool. It was released by RCA on 30th July 2001 and it was to change the history of rock 'n' roll. The Strokes are accredited with jump starting the Indie scene, with their skinny jeans, unwashed hair Converse wearing homage to The Ramones and their jaunty, garage art-rock and mysterious, almost indecipherable vocal, curtesy of Julian Casablancas.
Well, it's been ten years since they injected the music scene with a much needed kick up the butt, and now for the anniversary of its release, Stereogum have asked their favourite Indie bands to do a tribute to the epoch-marking album with a free downloadable covers compilation called Stroked: A Tribute To Is This It. You can get it for free here:http://stereogum.com/767531/stroked-tribute-to-is-this-it/mp3s/
Listen up kids! I am a very happy person today, because today I found out that a band I used to listen to at least every other day, a band that have been rocking since 1983 and are still cool, are bringing out a new album. This band are LA funk rock god’s, Red Hot Chili Peppers.
So! They are back! Complete with new guitarist, Josh Klinghoffer, who replaces John Frusciante. He looks at least twenty years younger than the rest of the band, so he will bring a breath of fresh air and some new ideas with him, which you can already hear in the new, cleaner sound. And it was Josh, who landed the name of the new record a day before the deadline for it was due.
The new album, ‘I’m With You’ is due for release on 26th
August in Europe and the first single from it, 'The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie', is below for you to wrap your ears around. I just love it, and so glad the funk is back, I had to do a little dance to celebrate. Bassist Flea has said of the new work, "it’s just like a very … meaningful and rejuvenating rebirth for us."
Just paying my respects again and in my opinion this magazine cover deserves the exposure because it is the most beautiful cover I have ever seen in tribute to an artist, especially by the NME.
Such a shame she had to go, but if she's happier now, only she will know.
Leaving a gap that is as atmospheric as a fish in a tank isn't enough to instill how much time has passed and how much caper, misadventure & tragedy my life has entailed since I returned to Manchester following 6 months spent in London after finishing my Journalism degree-which the previous entries on here are all about. I went to New York for a week of my final year and got to interview a lovely designer from the famous Parson's design school. But apart from that the rest of the week was pretty dull, because most of the people I was there with were absolute bores. ANYWAY. I got to go because the uni paid for the board at the YMCA and half the flight fares (thank you!!!!) and I had to chip in a tiny £300, which is peanuts when you think you cross the Atlantic Ocean and get there in one piece.
As you may have gathered- and if you have seen me since- you will know- I am now back in my hometown of Manchester, over the hills and far away, and pretty much back to normal, whatever that is. I hope you will enjoy my posts, I can tell you they won't all be so narcissistic.
