Get Stroked

If you are my age, or round about that, I bet you can remember buying IS THIS IT by The Strokes, even marvelling at the genius choice of band name. They were oh so cool. It was released by RCA on 30th July 2001 and it was to change the history of rock 'n' roll. The Strokes are accredited with jump starting the Indie scene, with their skinny jeans, unwashed hair Converse wearing homage to The Ramones and their jaunty, garage art-rock and mysterious, almost indecipherable vocal, curtesy of Julian Casablancas.

Well, it's been ten years since they injected the music scene with a much needed kick up the butt, and now for the anniversary of its release, Stereogum have asked their favourite Indie bands to do a tribute to the epoch-marking album with a free downloadable covers compilation called Stroked: A Tribute To Is This It. You can get it for free here:http://stereogum.com/767531/stroked-tribute-to-is-this-it/mp3s/

Enjoy!
