American Beauty

The Face of Chanel in 1966

I was watching the film Love Story for the second time the other day and after I had dried my tears (it's very, very sad) googled around to try and find a picture of a gorgeous outfit the leading lady wears in one particular scene. Although she makes an impression with her fresh faced, preppy style throughout the film, this particular one stayed with me. I never found it, but I did find loads of other images and found out that Ali Macgraw, who plays tragic Jenny in the film, was something of a style icon during the sixties and seventies, despite being voted 'worst-dressed' by someone called Richard Blackwell who was obviously considerably stupid.
She won a Golden Globe and received a Best Actress nomination for her role in the timeless classic released in 1970, which was also nominated for a further six awards at the 1970 Academy Awards. Before she turned her hand to acting she was once a fashion assistant to the ledgendary Diana Vreeland at Harper's Bazaar, she also worked as a photographer's assistant and model for Vogue.
In 1972 she starred in The Getaway with Steve McQueen and a year later the two married. But the union was short lived, and they divorced in 1978. She appeared in People magazine's '50 Most Beautiful People' list and in 2008 GQ magazine named her in their 'Sexiest 25 Women in Film Ever' issue.
And you can see why!

Who needs make-up with such perfect skin? Get the no make-up look with a tinted moisturiser.
I use the Nivea one in Natural, it's perfect for summer because it's so light.
In The Getaway

The original kook?

a lesson in understated chic

Rockin' some serious attitude and a great suede mac in The Getaway
That wonderful mac again...

Red & white stripes are a sweet take on nautical, made even prettier with a bow in the hair.
